I have something to admit.
I am a voyeur.
I love the thrill of peeking into peoples private lives made public through blogs, personals, online journals and photos.
I love Nerve, Suicide Girls, Live Journal, and All The Various and Sundry Blogging sites...
But my favorite cyberspace keyhole is 'i shot myself'..
The gist is this. Get a digital camera. Shoot yourself in the nude. Upload.
This takes guts.
Guts are appreciated, by me and by many others it seems.
ISM gets more yearly visitors than the Guggenheim and Louvre museums combined.
On this god-send of a site, for 15 minutes, brave girls (and soon boys), from around the world, can finally get the 900 seconds of fame that their Uncle Andy promised them.
I would do it. I would be a little nervous, but why not? What have I got to hide?
I like the thought of people looking at me, raw and uncut...(and no, that wasn't a circumcision joke...well it kinda was...oh god, overshare, overshare)...
I guess I am a voyeur AND an exhibitionist.
I guess that is why I enjoy looking at other exhibitionists.
I love not just looking at their revealed bodies, but noticing also, all the little background details.
Since all the submissions must be self-portraits, they often hold the camera at arms-length.
This requires a wide angle lens with good depth of field.
The wide angle nature of many of the shots reveals not only the person taking their own picture, but also what is in the background.
Pet rabbits, Star Wars bedspreads, artwork, books, shelf nick-nacks, sculptures, clothes, record collections and other tiny clues into what these girls might be like were you to know them personally are often clearly distinguishable behind them.
This is just as fascinating and interesting to me as the nudity.
I love seeing all the little things that make a person. Like what kind of socks one chooses.
I also love the fact that these are REAL girls. All shapes, sizes, ages, and colors.
No airbrushing, no special effects, no illusions.
The hell with "Reality TV", this folks, is reality.
I am not much for surface. I don't like secrets. I am not interested in small talk.
I want to see what's underneath the facade of our daily armor.
The artists of ISM are armorless.
Check out the gallery at left entitled "Brave Naked Girls" to see what I mean.
Remember though, that if graphic nudity offends you..you definitely WONT want to see what's inside...
But you might want to get a life.
